Things To Do Near Grazy Days Farm: Hiking, Breweries & Wineries, History, Great Food, Covered Bridges, Murals...

At the top of my family's list is hiking. Our favorite spots are half an hour northwest of the farm, near Thurmont, MD: the adjoining Cunningham Falls State Park and Catoctin National Parks (home of Presidential Retreat Camp David). Between the farm and Baltimore, just off rt. 26, lies the beautiful lake side hiking at Piney Run on Martz Rd. We prefer the East side of the lake. Between us and DC you can find many lovely opportunities such as Little Bennet Regional Park in Clarksburg, MD, Black Hill regional Park in Boyds, MD, and Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, MD.

Our Farm is surrounded by many popular wineries and breweries. Milkhouse Brewery is a great spot owned by friends of ours. They make a fabulous Coppermine Stout. Very close to there is Frey's Brewing Company, Flood Zone Brewery, and Red Shedman Farm Brewery.

Black Ankle Winery (see pic) is really gorgeous inside and out. Others are Loew Vineyards, Hidden Hills Farm and Vineyard, Linganore Winecellars, and Elk Run Winery.

The town of Frederick has many great restaurants such as The Wine Kitchen and Thatcher & Rye. We have a fantastic park threading through downtown along the little creek shown in the photo above. We have great local shops, little historical sights and museums, interesting murals, and so much more, as spelled out in some of the links below. We also aren't far from Antietam National Battlefield and Gettysburg National Military Park.
